What is Weird Science?

Weird Science is an extracurricular inquiry-based science program focused on grades pre-K through 4th grade. The program is based in Tucson, AZ, but the science experiences I post here can be used anywhere and by anyone, including parents, teachers, and homeschoolers. I hope you enjoy them!

"Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each" -- Plato

About Me

My photo
A. K. Huth, Ph.D.
Anne graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1996 with a B.S. in Geology and a minor in Comprehensive Science. In 1998, she received her M.S. in Hydrology from the University of Arizona. She continued her graduate work in Hydrology and received her Ph.D. in 2003, with a minor in Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis. She has spent the last several years developing a set of NSF-funded, GIS-based high-school and college science curriculum (Hall-Wallace et al., 2003, 2004, 2007). She has also spent an abundant amount of time field-testing in high-school classrooms and participating in outreach activities. As a graduate student, Anne was actively involved in outreach to local teachers and classrooms through the NSF-funded GLOBE and GK-12 CATTS programs. Her dissertation research focused on hydrograph separation and nitrogen cycling in snowmelt-dominated environments and in semiarid streams during monsoon flood flow in the Southwest. When her oldest son started kindergarten in 2009, the Weird Science program was born! That continues to be her passion today as the program grows and she develops new ideas for inquiry-based, hands-on science activities for young minds.
